Ronnie Drew… a friend who left early!

The sea was calm at Greystones on that day
When friends and strangers came to say good bye
To a Dubliner we knew as Ronnie Drew
Who left the stage without much hue or cry
A man of many parts and simple tastes
He lived his days as sometimes right or wrong
His voice was unforgetably distinct
A loner who had touched our souls in song
I knew Ronnie in the things we shared
A love of Dublin and it’s songs and rhymes
He’ll be always with me when they sing
A bar of Dublin in the Rare ould Times.
